Siargao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, as well as the surfing paradise of Asia because of the famous waves and beach breaks of Cloud Nine. Now that the surfing season is coming (September to March), more and more people from all over the world are visiting either to surf or watch surfers brave the thick, hollow tubes of Cloud Nine (or Cloud 9).
From General Luna, we took a habal-habal, their local form of transportation in the area, to get to Cloud 9. When we got there, we noticed a lot of hotels and resorts lined up along the beach mostly catering to surfers and tourists.
We'll definitely be staying in one of those resorts when we decide to come back here to learn how to brave their famous waves and to learn how to paddle surf as well. I wonder if paddle surfing has caught on in La Union? Hmmm... Anyway, I digress...
Cloud Nine gets very crowded during the surfing season because its famous waves can be reached without having to ride a boat, which surfers of course find very convenient. You just have to swim, or paddle, or paddle surf out there to reach the famous beach break.
As for us, we managed to brave the dilapidated bridge that leads to the area where we can take better photos and videos of the surfers.
We only stayed there until sunset, promising ourselves that we should definitely go back to see what it's like to brave those famous waves.
