To Diet or Not

Buffet lunch in Misibis Bay

The past couple of days, we have been pigging out a lot, most especially my husband. Buffet dinner here, buffet breakfast there, and before we know it, we've already gained pounds which can be so difficult to lose. It also doesn't help that when we're not traveling, we pretty much live a very sedentary lifestyle, what with being in the south and sitting in front of our computer desk all the time (Peter actually has a computer bed instead of a desk, so his case is much worse, hehehe). So, we've been thinking of doing some drastic changes in our diet, exercise habits, and intake of diet supplements like meizitang.

Buffet breakfast in Misibis Bay

It's a brand for natural herb slimming capsules in soft gels which originated in China and are said to contain slimming properties, to wit:
  • It helps accelerates fat metabolism.
  • It reduces the absorption of fatty acids in the intestine.
However, before we go into any kind of diet supplements, we should always do more research about these slimming capsules. After all, this is our body and we do need to take care of it. If the known side effects are something we won't be comfortable with, then we might as well just stick to a low carb diet. After all, according to this month's Reader's Digest, fat is still good for the body. It's those unwanted carbs that make us obese.

Can we really diet?

So, for Meizitang, we should be aware of the following contraindications:
  • It is not to be taken by pregnant women and infants of children under 18 years of age and those over 65.
  • It should not be taken by people with high blood pressure.
  • If you have cardiovascular disease, kidney and liver failure, it is not for you too.
I guess the lesson here is  to know the kinds of food and drugs we are ingesting. We only have one body and it's great if we make the best use of it for as long as possible.
