WE
ALL FEEL THE HEAT WAVE EVERYDAY. AND IT IS GETTING QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE,
ACTUALLY. GLOBAL WARMING OR NOT, SUMMER IS DEFINITELY HERE TO STAY.
WHAT BETTER WAY TO COOL OFF THAN TO SPEND IT OUT OF TOWN, PREFERABLY BY
THE BEACH AND JUST SUNBATHE AND FROLICK THE SUMMER DAYS AWAY…
Just
don’t forget your hat, shades and SPF70 lotion and you’re ready to
conquer this scorching heat. Consider some of my suggestions for places
to spend your summer vacation…

NASUGBU, BATANGAS
We did this trip two summers ago. We started at Munting Buhangin Beach Camp, our favorite getaway in Nasugbu. It’s a nice family beach resort beside Terrazas de Punta Fuego (a way more expensive beach resort that sells condo units and beach huts at around P7Million per member, wow!). Munting Buhangin shares its beach with Terrazas. It’s beach is wide with grey sand and rocky seabed at the far right side. Their accommodations are quite expensive (around P2500 per night) and since we’ve always been the budget-conscious type, we spent the night in our trusty tent instead. You can rent one for P750/night. If you pitch your own, you pay P350. Mer and her new bf then (Brian), brought a military tent that was a bit baffling to put together. Good thing Peter had experience pitching that type of tent so we were all able to relax afterwards. If you need extra cushion, they rent one for P100 each. Not bad eh? After settling down, and having brought our guitar, Mer immediately played with it as we sat on our mat outside our tents and jammed the afternoon heat away. The other activities we did that day when the sun wasn’t that hot anymore consisted of the following: snorkeling, kayaking, water pedalling, swimming and sunbathing. And every time we get hungry, we run to the resort’s restaurant that sells Pinoy dihes at affordable prices. And at night, we just listened to the waves and enjoyed the cool summer air. I tried waking up at around 3am and I saw the moon in its full glory. It was magnificent! I just stared at it for the next thirty minutes until I finally dozed off again. The following morning, we packed our stuff and after breakfast, headed to our next destination.

LA LUZ, SAN JUAN, BATANGAS
The
following day we went all the way to La Luz Beach Resort in San Juan,
Batangas. The drive was a bit difficult but it was sooooo worth it.
(actually the drive would have been easier coming from Manila than
Nasugbu I think). At around 12 noon, when we thought we were almost near
our destination, we realized that we were lost. When we called La Luz,
they confirmed that we went the opposite direction, hence, were 2 hours
away from La Luz! Apparently, we reached another town named San Juan
too. Omigod!!! It was really infuriating. Tired and hungry, we cussed
all the way to La Luz. I told myself that if this resort isn’t as
perfect as it described itself to be on the internet, I’d put them on
fire! (Of course, I was just being mean, being hungry and all that).
True enough, the moment we got there, we immediately headed to the
beach. And to our amazement, it was indeed everything it described
itself to be. Like what Kai mentioned before, it has this “Thai Resort
feel” to it. I was sooo ecstatic! We immediately settled in our room
consisting of four single beds and a big bathroom. We paid around P2300
for the four of us, for one night, plus P800 each for three buffet meals
(breakfast, lunch and dinner). At present, they still offer P2300 for a
deluxe fan room but their 3 buffet meals cost P900 per person. I think
it’s still quite affordable considering that you’d always have four
dishes to choose from excluding dessert. Yumyum! The activities we did
during our stay were: swimming, snorkeling at a nearby coral garden just
in front of the beach, hiking at a nearby rocky hill overlooking the
entire beach and playing with a harmless jellyfish. Yeah…there were lots
of them white big round type at that time. Peter even killed one by
slicing it to pieces (poor thing!). And in the evening, after pigging
out at dinner, we hung out by the beach with our bottles of alcohol in
hand and the full moon shining overhead.

TAGAYTAY
On
our third day, we drove all the way back to Tagytay. We stopped at one
of their ukay-ukay tiangges near Olivarez Plaza. We bought a poncho for
only P100 and some trinkets at a very cheap price. Then, we had lunch
at Viewsite, one of their newest restaurants at that time that’s also
overlooking the Taal Lake like Leslie’s. It offers Pinoy dishes at quite
competetive prices. Afterwards, we visited this spacious parking lot
and watched the sun set. In the evening, we stayed at a Club Panoly
townhouse near the rotonda and rested by singing our hearts out using
the videoke. The next day, after checking out, we dropped by People’s
Park before heading back to Manila.
