Mamon Island is part of a two-island package tour which we got from Patrick's on the Beach for Php3,700 during our second day in Siargao. It is already inclusive of food, drinks, use of kayak, surfboard and snorkeling gear. The other island is La Januza island (also called La Janosa) which is just a few kilometers from Mamon island.
Mamon island has got to be one of the best islands my husband and I have seen in the Philippines (so far). Going there takes about an hour of boat ride from General Luna. On the way to Mamon Island, we saw numerous other white sand beaches in the vicinity and once you get near it, you will pass by pristine blue waters as clear as daylight. Just look at these photos below. No more need for an underwater camera just to get a clear view.
Even without going underwater, you can already see the colorful corals and fishes from above the water.
This trip reminded me of our Caramoan escapade which I have still yet to blog about. Anyway, because of the beautiful coral formations, Mamon island would be the perfect spot to do some snorkeling.
See how clear the water is? You don't believe me? Look at these videos below:
Aside from the very good quality of the water, the island itself is huge and oh so white. If only we had a lot of time, I would love to have stayed there for one whole day, sunbathe under the glorious sun and let my skin get its well-deserved golden tan.
But we only had a few hours to spare. So Peter and I rode the kayak...
We also thought of going to that part of the ocean where the waves are high so we could surf but later on decided against it since the tide was getting low and we didn't want to get wiped out onto the coral reefs.
So we just swam some more, snorkeled, read a book at the beach and sunbathed.
We had a scrumptious lunch too. They prepared huge servings of food fro us --- chicken curry, vegetable salad, fish, rice, mangoes, soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water... all part of the package we paid for.
Mamon Island is a definite must-see when you go to Siargao. Make sure you also put it on your itinerary.
Til my next island post!
