Dinagat 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake

It was 3:58 pm when I felt the earth moving here in Siargao. It was an earthquake! Ack! Is my worst fear happening? It lasted only for a few seconds but it felt strong. I immediately checked Phivolcs but it was only after 40 minutes that the site got updated. As it turned out, a magnitide of 5.7 earthquake hit Dinagat in Surigao del Sur according the site.

I started scouring the web for news and signs of tsunami warning but there are none as of this writing (It's 4:50pm pn my watch)

MANILA, Philippines—A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Surigao del Norte at 3:58 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the tremor that hit two kilometers south-southwest of Dinagat Islands.

It was felt at Intensity V in General Luna, Surigao del Norte; Intensity IV in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur; and Intensity III in Tolosa and Tacloban in Leyte.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.

I'm praying that this kind of earthquake won't cause any tsunami. But just to be safe, it's better to stay off the coast for a while. 

We're also getting in contact with the owners of Ocean 101 who are in mainland Surigao right now where the earthquake was probably more felt. We're trying to get news from them about tsunami warnings. According to the manager here, their contact from the local tourism office will immediately text if evacuations have to be done. I hope it won't get to that. In the meantime, I am watching the birds and the animals. If they're not behaving normally then it could be a sign that a tsunami may be coming. (I read that somewhere. No time to research now. Gotta go and prepare just in case.)
