Kayaking in Nasugbu and Tagaytay Food Trip

Sept. 20, 2009… a week before typhoon Ondoy devastated Luzon. It was a quiet, sunny and wonderful day. Peter and I thought it was a good day to go out of town and spend some quality time together. Since we only had two days to spare (Monday was considered a holiday), we decided to go somewhere near and fun. So we thought of heading to Tagaytay and Nasugbu.

Upon reaching Tagaytay proper, we noticed that the sky was getting dark, cold and foggy. Our first reaction was a big “OH NO!!!”. It also began to drizzle so we decided to stop somewhere for lunch to think about whether we’re pushing thru with our plan to kayak in Nasugbu or not.

We found this nice looking restaurant, BALI SEAFOD PALUTO. It was cozy with native and wooden designs. And they offer delicious Pinoy dishes too.

Munting Buhangin Nasugbu Getaway

Like I said we were supposed to head to Calatagan and visit this place I found online --- White Castle Resort. The pictures I saw really seemed so grand. But when we got there, the place was so small, the pool was greenish and there were no visitors! To think it was summer and I expected the place to be fully-booked! I would've considered it if the beach was somehow ok but it wasn't! Black sand is fine by me and Peter. But black sand with soil and rocks... no, no, no! So off we went back the opposite direction and headed to Nasugbu instead. We wanted to see the other coves there. But as luck would have it, Peter was not able to gas up Zach and we were afraid (well, I was afraid actually, while Peter insisted the car can make it) that we might not be able to have the luxury to go resort-hopping and find what suits us. So, we ended up in one of our old fave beach hang out --- Munting Buhangin Beach Camp which shares the same beach as Terrazas de Punta Fuego. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Nasugbu - La Luz - Tagaytay

WE ALL FEEL THE HEAT WAVE EVERYDAY. AND IT IS GETTING QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE, ACTUALLY. GLOBAL WARMING OR NOT, SUMMER IS DEFINITELY HERE TO STAY. WHAT BETTER WAY TO COOL OFF THAN TO SPEND IT OUT OF TOWN, PREFERABLY BY THE BEACH AND JUST SUNBATHE AND FROLICK THE SUMMER DAYS AWAY…
Just don’t forget your hat, shades and SPF70 lotion and you’re ready to conquer this scorching heat. Consider some of my suggestions for places to spend your summer vacation…

NASUGBU, BATANGAS

We did this trip two summers ago. We started at Munting Buhangin Beach Camp, our favorite getaway in Nasugbu. It’s a nice family beach resort beside Terrazas de Punta Fuego (a way more expensive beach resort that sells condo units and beach huts at around P7Million per member, wow!). Munting Buhangin shares its beach with Terrazas. It’s beach is wide with grey sand and rocky seabed at the far right side. Their accommodations are quite expensive (around P2500 per night) and since we’ve always been the budget-conscious type, we spent the night in our trusty tent instead. You can rent one for P750/night. If you pitch your own, you pay P350. Mer and her new bf then (Brian), brought a military tent that was a bit baffling to put together. Good thing Peter had experience pitching that type of tent so we were all able to relax afterwards. If you need extra cushion, they rent one for P100 each. Not bad eh? After settling down, and having brought our guitar, Mer immediately played with it as we sat on our mat outside our tents and jammed the afternoon heat away. The other activities we did that day when the sun wasn’t that hot anymore consisted of the following: snorkeling, kayaking, water pedalling, swimming and sunbathing. And every time we get hungry, we run to the resort’s restaurant that sells Pinoy dihes at affordable prices. And at night, we just listened to the waves and enjoyed the cool summer air. I tried waking up at around 3am and I saw the moon in its full glory. It was magnificent! I just stared at it for the next thirty minutes until I finally dozed off again. The following morning, we packed our stuff and after breakfast, headed to our next destination.
