Humboldt Penguins @ Manila Ocean Park

This was the very first time that I saw real, live penguins and it happened in Manila Ocean Park during my birthday weekend. Watch this video we took of the Humboldt penguins. They're so cute!!!

Going to the penguin exhibit costs Php300 per person plus Php400 more if you'd like to have your photos taken while feeding them. If you include it in one of their packages, it would be more affordable. Refer to the package list here (valid until April 2012).

Manila Ocean Park showcases the Humboldt Penguins, the first in the country. The Penguin Exhibit is just outside the Snow Village.

There are about 18 species of penguins in the world and what they have here at Manila Ocean Park are the Humboldt Penguins.

They are flightless marine birds superbly adapted to their environment. These penguins come from a warm and dry climate off the west coast of South America as opposed to those that come from the chilly Antarctic.

They can live up to 30 years in captivity and only 20 years in the wild. These birds can identify each other with their unique voices even though for us, they all sound alike. They are natural swimmers, using their wings to propel them underwater at a speed of up to 17 mph. How very fascinating!

I'm thinking of going back there to have my photo taken while feeding these Humboldt Penguins. ^_^
